Reviews The show was nothing short of amazing. It was my 2nd O.A.R. show, and I pretty much couldn't ask for a better setlist. Opening w/ "Heard the World" was completely unexpected, "Here's to You" was brilliant, and "So Moved On", "Old Man Time", and "Conquering Fools" one after another was insane. And "Destination w/ FOTM tag" was definitely a highlight. "52-50": Great way to close the set. The four song encore was awesome including a great "Night Shift" and an awesome version of "Poker" to close the night with. By the way, the songs from ALL SIDES sound great live and I was happy to hear them. Another amazing show, can't wait for the next one. -wanderer465 July 25, 2008
This was my third show in Chicago, and my fifth overall, and the crowd energy at this one was definitely the best I've seen - you could tell Marc was loving every second of it. During Lay Down Mike and Jerry joined Chris with a couple drums of their own and put down a pretty sweet jam.

The new stuff was pretty good, I always hate to see Jerry put down the sax for a guitar though, which I think he did in 3 of the 4 new ones. Overall, not my favorite set of the shows I've seen but nevertheless an amazing time with O.A.R.!

Edit: I agree with OAR14 below about there being waaaay too many teenagers without a clue in the place. Most of them were trashed though and still going wild, whether knew the words or not. I did cringe though during Love and Memories when everyone sang the chorus when they were just trying to jam... -letyourselfgo July 25, 2008
3 words...WORST CROWD EVER!! I mean really, how many f'ed up teenagers can you pile into one place? If you weren't getting elbowed in the head, puked on,or burnt with a cigarette, you were getting shoved by some kid on his way to the front of the stage waiting to hear Poker, the only song they know.

Now O.A.R. rocked as usual, Heard the World, So Moved On, War Song was really great. And Marc's solo Short A Try was awesome. They always have such great energy on stage and having a blast. Really love these guys live, but ready to see these guys in the fall hopefully at some smaller venues where they can actually control the crowd. Pretty disappointing for true fans that just want to hear the guys play without all the bullshit. -OAR14 July 25, 2008
Everything OAR14 said +

This was my 11th show. I've been listening to O.A.R. since 2001. It's sad that the bands stage presence gets better and better, but the crowds get worse and worse. I actually prefered it better when they were an unknown band and became know by word of mouth. These DRUNK TEENY BOPPERS need to STFU and GTFO or learn how to: control themselves, enjoy the music, and respect others!

The performance was great. Great set list, was glad that only a few of the songs were off the new album. I definitely prefer the older songs better. Good improv on stage by Marc. The energy on stage was great. It was good to see all the guys enjoying themselves up there.

Not the best show I've been to, but still good for the performance. Definitely one to look for as a live recording. -DestinationSTL July 25, 2008
I agree with what everyone has said so far, I was second row and people just kept shoving trying to get to the front, I would have gladly moved back a couple rows if I could have just to get away from all the idiots, security at that place was a joke. Me and the guy in front of me complained about the same drunk guy whose back was to the stage and was just trying to start fights 10 times to security still didn't throw him out, just a joke. I wasn't as crazy about the show as everyone else, I'm not a big destination fan or SMO. Really liked the way Dinner Last Night sounded live, and Fools was good as always. War Song is a FANTASTIC live song, this being my fourth show and that was easily my favorite single song performance of the four shows. -tmbruz1 July 25, 2008
#25 for me and this is definitely near the top of the list. Great mix of old and new. Would have liked to hear a cover, was really hoping for Night Shift...Stir It Up, hope they bring that back. Charter One Pavilion is a great venue, right on the lake, great weather, just a great time. Although I agree with the "young, drunk" crowd growing, I also think that the group is getting a bigger following from an older crowd, which I think is cool. I have been to Charter One several times now and I think the way to is to get seats, not GA. Even though I had seats I stood at the top of the bleachers the whole show and did not see 1 security/staff member. Will def check them out again next year, as it seems they will hit this venue every summer. -mbombs July 25, 2008
O.A.R. sucks live unless you are hammered anyway......so DRINK UP!!!!!!!!!!!

You stole the words out of my mouth bigfella45 obviously you know how to party.... -menkes21 July 25, 2008
wow the guy above me is intelligent... -NCHart08 July 25, 2008
you know what everyone who writes on these thing say the same damn thing. worst crowd ever. you know what the show was great. and for ever one who doesnt know what a concert is.. your in idiot, yes there are goin to be kids underage drinking and they are goin to be idiots but you know what, if your getting that old where u cant handle kids like this, you prolly should be goint to concerts, haha stay at home and drink a cup of tee and listen to oar on your ipod haha. its a CONCERT! deal with it. and no im not underage either. i just learn to deal with it, i use to go to shows underage to and drink, its just what happens at these things. you cant do shit about it, so everyone stfu and deal with it! -bigfella45 July 25, 2008
i dont know if i can agree, this is number 6 for me.. i thought the crowd was better than last year, but that's probably just because the boys i was with were stronger.. all in all i was excited to hear fools, and old man time.. short a try owned, all the new songs were awesome,, i was hoping to hear one day cause i thought i heard them warm it up before the show.. but other than that the setlist rocked. People are crazy.. charter is definitely for the partying atmosphere, personally i don't have to drink to enjoy an oar concert.. but i'm also a true fan.. lol.. oar is love..
obviously i will continue to go to charter because when i leave i alwaysss feel better than when i came =] -meldunn_oar July 25, 2008
Show was amazing...Front and center the crowd was great. I did not get pushed to much and everyone around me was there for all the songs, not just poker and l&m -gprsh924 July 25, 2008
I drove up from St. Louis with 7 other people... Seen oar a dozen times. Awesome show, great set list... Short a try is amazing to see live. The crowd pissed me off a bit, but what can you expect being in Chicago at a concert with people wearing cards hats... But all in all great show. Loved war song, night shift, dinner last night, fools.. I will def be back -LarryRoos July 26, 2008
One of the best shows that I have seen with the band in the past 9 years of going to see them. THe Beautiful girls set was very good to open the show. But the 2 hour set was unbelievable. Going back to back with 3 am and Poker definitely made the night epic. I got to hang out with Marc and Benj after the show but the whole entire night was just amazing. Even the band said it was the perfect night of music, fans, and a great time. -Untitled07 July 27, 2008
Alright, you are mainly going to hear more of the same from me... this was my 6th concert and first and foremost the band like always was amazing, they played a great setlist, and the crowd wasnt that bad. Everyone is complaining about the drunk teen boppers who dont know any songs and while they were there and were annoying they were not the majority. You just have to expect them to be there and deal with them its sad that it has come to that but it is what it is. I was actually impressed with the amount of singing (as was mark) and letyourselfgo while you were cringing mark was amazed that the crowd was singing even without any of his prompting, if you had looked at him, you wouldve seen him turn to jerry and say wow. Then immediately after he told the crowd that we sounded pretty good.

I was glad that they didnt play too much from the new album, but the ones they did play were the right ones. My biggest complaint about the new album is the lack of the sax. No offense but while I think its cool that Jerry can play 3 instruments I would much rather hear that sax.

My favorite song of the night was night shift. It came as a total shock and seemed to be the finale but of course crazy game is a must. The energy on the encore was at another level, always leave your audience wanting more and they did. I can't wait to see them again. -feelinghome45 July 27, 2008
The best show i haveever been to. Mark sounded great and the venue was perfect as always
-Patrick July 27, 2008
the show was really good. i think they need to work on the performance of this town since i think it could be amazing if they could deliver it better and get the crowd participating more. they would flash the lights towards the crown on the "hey"s but it didn't seem to do much. just my $.02.

the lay down drum jam was pretty cool and short a try was my favorite part since i've never seen it live before. -dspapo July 28, 2008
I thought the part of the crowd that I was next to was pretty good. Some people around me even knew the words to Short a Try which was really nice to see. Awesome set, great venue, #10 for me. -Jumper1015 July 29, 2008
this was my 3rd time seeing them at charter one and i think it was the best, the 4th time this summer and it was the best yet and the 12th time overall and i have to say this show is in my top 3. we decided to hang in the back this time around and it was a good idea i think. amazing setlist, i loved how they threw in a bunch of the older songs but my personal favorite of the night was Short a Try. I absolutely love that song. the only way it could have been better is if they played Irish Rose (See You Cry) instead of Short a Try. All in all it was a great set and a great night. -tfcolucci July 29, 2008
Show was pretty good not really any complaints. I'm a teenager and I went but you guys can't hate on all of us because I'm sure I know more songs than most of you.

My eleventh show they were real energetic personally liked summerfest better this year but hearing conquering fools again was nasty. glad they mixed in some of the new songs. Night shift then poker was probably my favorite part. Havn't heard night shift in a while so it was definatly the highlight. Crowd wasn't really bad by me couple people trying to pick fights but was a great time. Missed out on the meet and greet because it was closed out but still a great night. Can't wait till they come back hopefully in the winter maybe down by ISU. -theconqueringfool July 30, 2008
My 6th show and I loved it, probably one of the best times I've had at a show. Everyone around me knew every word and no one was trying to pick fights or anything; it was great.

I loved Destination, Conquering Fools, War Song and Short A Try was a nice surprise. I can't wait till they come back around Chicago. -City_On_Down August 3, 2008
This was my 8th O.A.R show and I loved the set. It mixed new and old totally perfect. I thought opening with heard the world was great because it definetly caught me and most of the crowd by surprise. It seemed like they wanted to close with 3.am which wouldve been perfect, but the crowd wanted poker so much they didnt have a choice. I totally agree with how bad the crowd sucked. People pushing, starting fights, its bullshit. Thats not what youre at an o.a.r concert for. But seriously menkes 21..... sucks live unlesss youre hammered???? this concert was fantasic and you dont have to be hammered to appreciate great music like o.a.r puts out album after album -king of the thing 53 September 27, 2008
