Roseland Theater
10.29.2005 - Portland, OR
With: As Fast As
$ with the "Facemelter" on guitar. $ Marc with Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers. First time Piano Man was played. Recordings No recordings available. Check back later. Reviews Another amazing and inspiring O.A.R. show. The first half dozen songs were pretty straightforward, which means that they still kicked ass over almost any corporate crap you might hear in concert (esp. DMB). Then, during Anyway, the guitar tech, Jimmy Maddington came out and performed an over-the-top insanely inspired guitar solo that really seemed to energize the band. From that point on, they were just phenomenal. The encore with Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers was unbelievable. I was frankly surprised that so many of the young kids there even knew the lyrics to Piano Man. I guess the thing that I enjoyed the most was just how much fun they were all having. Marc was wandering the stage, microphone in hand, joining in periodically. Benj had his camera out and was snapping pictures like crazy. They other guys were in the wings hanging out and enjoying themselves. According to the official setlist, if SK6 hadn't performed, the band would have played Love and Memories and then About Mr. Brown before Delicate Few. The Roseland is a wonderful theater for the show and the crowd was loud and engaged (and really young--what's up with that?). Only downside: Still waiting to hear my first live version of Crazy Game of Poker->No Woman No Cry. Maybe tonight in Seattle! -dwschwartz October 31, 2005 |
