Reviews Huge O.A.R fan. I have been following the band for the past 10 years and this was somewhere around my 75th show. With that said O.A.R. is clearly not the same band they were 10 years ago, or even 2 years ago. Clearly they have taken a turn toward main stream pop, and what has been lost is the reggae jam band influence. O.A.R. is clearly best when they are jamming. Highlights at SPAC for me were About An Hour Ago, About Mr. Brown, Black Rock, and a killer closer in Night Shift!.

While I appreciate the concept of War Song it just isn't my thing, nor is "Love is worth the Fall" a song written for a recent sound track.

O.A.R. has well over 100 songs and most of which are underplayer or rarely played, most notably City on Down, arguably one of their best songs. After not hearing City on Down at Merriweather Friday night I had hoped to have heard it at SPAC but again notta... with all the classic songs they have I still don't know why they still play covers like "With A Little Help From My Friends"? Perhaps as a tribute to the 40th of Woodstock?

Live O.A.R. SPAC 2009

OK 1st: GREAT SETLIST! every song was SOLID; A-GAME throughout; however the band needs to step up to DMB standards and rock 2 hour main sets and then however long they want for the encore. 90 minutes for the main set was weak. War Song was BADASS; THEY ROCKED THE F-out on that at the end. It was cool during WAR SONG that they showed photos up on the HD screens of our troops overseas and what environment they are dealing with. I just wish they busted out the HD screens sooner; the HD screens have alot of potential. I hope they keep them. Slowly but surely they are improving on their visual concert experience. One thing that would put it over the top is for them to have more videographers to film the band so they can be seen on th HD screens...like the DMB shows; other than that the band is doing really well and love the 3-act sets: band -> acoustic -> band. It was nifty to see ON MY WAY transition from acoustic to band. The crew for the band was ON POINT. encore was solid; WITH A LITTLE HELP OF MY FRIENDS was SOLID; BEST VERSION yet. side note: WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS, POKER, and NIGHT SHIFT were the encore songs; so this setlist should be modded to reflect it; the encore break was like 2 minutes but still an encore break.

2ND: I OFFICIALLY HATE THE SPAC STAFF; thanks to them they F'd me over durin nathanson's opener; i wanted to record the opener from a seat that was practically in the aisl: section 5 row a seat 1 even though my seat number was 12 in that row. they wouldnt hear of it NOR would they let me tape inside the cage; they screw me over every time. AND ANOTHER THING; NO ONE EVER SAT IN SEAT 1...the chick-a-dees who were sitting in seats 5,6, and 7 ended up filling those seats; GO SPAC STAFF; FLEXIBILITY - FAIL! they can sit on a pole for all i care.

3rdly; thanks to the people who sat near me for taping and making it a decent taping experience for OAR's set and not being loud; NO THANKS to the guy 5 rows back who wanted me to move my stand over more; F-YOU DUDE; YOU GOT NO CLUE WHEN IT COMES TO TAPING SHOWS! -dmbgreystreet05 August 10, 2009
First off, I have been to all 4 SPAC shows, and must say this was BY FAR the best! Great to hear a classics right from the get go like About an Hour Ago, On Top the Cage was a nice suprise, and Hey girl to get things going. First time since '06 that they've played Black Rock and to get What I am tag with a sick freestyle by Marc to boot...Absolutely insane. Loved the new intro to Mr. Brown also. Wasn't too sure coming in to this show how I felt about the acoustic portion, but the way that they have put that together is amazing. Lay Down flows so smoothly right into What is Mine. Encore was absolutely incredible. Great to hear Little Help from My Friends and then to close with such a sick sick jam of Night Shift, blew my mind. I definately have to say that this was one of the best O.A.R. shows I have seen in a while, and this is the reason I make the 3 1/2 hour trip to SPAC every year. -scheisty1 August 10, 2009
solid show started great finish was a little week but with a little help from my friends was a great live cover -cityondown15 August 10, 2009
With a lil help from my friends was great to hear. Good freestyles throughout the night and conquering fools was sick. -jerry4president August 10, 2009
Defiantly better then last years SPAC show. Setlist was very good, possibly great for the exception of not having "City On Down". I think if they played that with the organ intro it would have made the show pretty amazing and would have gotten the crowd more into it. I don't know why they don't play that song with that intro more. The O.A.R. @ MSG Cd's version of "City On Down" as a closer is simply the best. Now onto a different note, the setlist was very good. The version of "Patiently" was amazing, I was so happy that they played it. "Lay Down" into "What Is Mine" & "Love and Memories" were pretty cool acoustically. "Night Shift" was sick. The way they started and ended "That Was A Crazy Game Of Poker" was pretty cool. Def digged that. "Black Rock" was good, overall I think it was a really good setlist. I cannot complain. Throw some recordings up guys. Def wanna hear the show again! About Matt Nathanson, he was great. I had the chance of seeing him before O.A.R. hit the stage and he was gracious to everyone he met and he really seemed pretty genuine. He rocked his song "Detriot Waves" and the crowd was really into it. -haggy20 August 10, 2009
What a great show - I was in the first row in Section 5 underneath the speakers - next to the taper, which was really cool. Black Rock was the best. I love the outro they played and prefer it to the Blood Outro.

Thanks to you, dmbgreystreet05! -shinyshirtguy August 10, 2009
What Time Did they come on stage? I am going to the show tonight but maybe late coming from work. -UMLKLB August 13, 2009
